Church FAQs

Q: What is The Breton Group's approach to fundraising?

A: We believe church fundraising must be centered in stewardship and rooted in scriptural teachings. We seek first to inform members about church needs and why it is important to meet the needs. We divide the work of the campaign into many small tasks to get as many members as possible involved. After information and involvement, we call members to prayer - to recognize their gifts and how God is asking them to use them in relation to church needs. We focus on "Not Equal Gifts but Equal Sacrifice." Only after information, involvement and prayer are members asked to make a sacrificial commitment over and above regular giving.

Q: What is the advantage of hiring a consultant for a capital stewardship campaign?

A: A consultant brings experience and a strategic plan for raising funds that will maximize fundraising results.

Q: Can we conduct our own capital campaign?

A: Yes. However, the results likely will be very different and significantly less than what would be raised with The Breton Group. We bring organization, training, materials and extensive expertise with churches of all sizes to work for you. Our model encourages participation by many members, leading to their better understanding of needs and their greater investment in the campaign. In addition, because prayer is incorporated into every aspect of the campaign, the church often experiences a spiritual renewal as a result of the campaign.

Q: How do we determine if The Breton Group is the right consultant for us?

A: First, talk with other churches with whom we have worked. Ask them about the quality of our work, our campaign model, our working relationship and campaign results. Ask if they would hire us again. Second, consider that we live and work in Michigan. We know the economy and its impact on fundraising. In addition, our proximity allows flexibility in scheduling so that we can be there for a special meeting or to address an unexpected problem. Finally, invite us for an interview. Get to know us personally, including the consultant that would be working with you. Tell us about your church and your plans, and let us tell you how we would approach your project and your congregation. Then make an informed decision about whether we are a good match for your needs.

Q: What is the fee for your capital stewardship campaign counsel?

A: We charge a flat fee, based on a number of factors, including the size of the church. The fee covers counsel provided during both the active and follow-up (three-year pledge period) phases of the campaign.

Q: How can a church justify the expense of hiring The Breton Group?

A: Hiring The Breton Group is a strategic decision to ensure maximum fundraising. The result will be an informed, involved, spiritually renewed congregation and a significantly increased financial response. Our fee represents a very small percentage of the total project budget and is raised through the campaign.
